====== Invocation ====== An [[:Ability:Ritual:Invocation|Invocation]] is a type of [[:Ability:Ritual]]. Unless otherwise specified, an [[:Ability:Ritual:Invocation|Invocation]] will require a number of [[:Mechanic:Roll:Check|Checks]] to perform, indicated by the [[:Ability:Ritual#Severity]]. It will additionally cost [[:Mechanic:Rating:Mana]], which will be specified by the [[:Ability:Ritual:Invocation|Invocation]]. [[:Ability:Ritual:Invocation|Invocations]], like most [[:Ability:Action|Actions]], require targets to be both [[:Mechanic:Conflict:Perceived]] and [[:Mechanic:Conflict:Acquired]]. Much like a [[:Ability:Ritual]], an [[:Ability:Ritual:Invocation|Invocation]] will require [[:Ability:Ritual:Multitasking|Multitasking Saves]] if required to perform other actions mid [[:Ability:Ritual:Invocation|Invocation]] or to maintain concentration after being attacked or otherwise startled, lest the [[:Ability:Ritual:Invocation|Invocation]] will [[:Mechanic:Outcome:Failure|Fail]]. \\ \\ Should an [[:Ability:Ritual:Invocation|Invocation]] [[:Mechanic:Outcome:Failure|Fail]] due to a [[:Mechanic:Outcome:Critical Failure]] while invoking or any other reason, in addition to failing the [[:Ability:Ritual]] the caster must immediately generate a [[:Mechanic:Outcome:Miscast]] [[:Mechanic:Roll:Test]], consulting the [[:Mechanic:Outcome:Miscast#Miscast Table]]. \\ \\ The [[:Mechanic:Rating:Mana]] cost of an [[:Ability:Ritual:Invocation|Invocation]] is spent when it is fully resolved. Should an [[:Ability:Ritual:Invocation|Invocation]] resolve and the caster does not have the required [[:Mechanic:Rating:Mana]], they suffer a [[:Mechanic:Outcome:Miscast]]. While an [[:Mechanic:General:Appropriate]] [[:Mechanic:Category:Entity]] is required to start an [[:Ability:Ritual:Invocation|Invocation]], the caster is allowed to change to a different [[:Mechanic:General:Appropriate]] [[:Mechanic:Category:Entity]] when it resolves.\\ \\ An [[:Ability:Ritual:Invocation|Invocation]] may be freely cancelled by performing another [[:Ability:Action|Action]] that would provoke a [[:Ability:Ritual:Multitasking|Multitasking Save]], and instead of performing the [[:Mechanic:Roll:Save]] you may choose to cancel the [[:Ability:Ritual:Invocation|Invocation]] instead. You may only cancel an [[:Ability:Ritual:Invocation|Invocation]] on your [[:Mechanic:General:Time:Turn]]. If you are forced to take a [[:Ability:Ritual:Multitasking|Multitasking Save]], from being forcibly moved, damaged or by performing a [[:Ability:Action:Quick Action|Quick]] or [[:Ability:Action:Free Action]], then you must take the [[:Ability:Ritual:Multitasking|Multitasking Save]] or choose to suffer the effects of [[:Mechanic:Outcome:Failure|Failing]] the [[:Ability:Ritual:Invocation|Invocation]]. ==== Changelog ==== Version 0.5c - Aug 2026 * Removed the need to speak or use free hands to perform an invocation, as the Ability itself will specify if this is required
