====== Encounter ====== An [[:Mechanic:General:Time:Encounter|Encounter]] is a mechanical term used to break a larger [[:Mechanic:General:Time:Scene]] into smaller, more manageable events. The bulk of play in Meat Space takes place moving from one [[:Mechanic:General:Time:Encounter|Encounter]] to the next. An [[:Mechanic:General:Time:Encounter|Encounter]] can be as simple as a conversation, game of chance or travel montage, or as involved as a lengthy social, technical or combat challenge. ==== Mechanics ==== The length of an [[:Mechanic:General:Time:Encounter|Encounter]] is variable and is largely determined by the needs of the story. As a general rule, an [[:Mechanic:General:Time:Encounter|Encounter]] lasts for the duration of a single event, conversation or challenge. While the [[:Mechanic:General:Player:Game Master]] will typically determine when an [[:Mechanic:General:Time:Encounter|Encounter]] begins and ends, the [[:Mechanic:General:Player:Cast Member|Cast]] are encouraged to help identify these transitions, as [[:Mechanic:General:Appropriate]]. At the start of a new [[:Mechanic:General:Time:Encounter|Encounter]], [[:Mechanic:General:Player|Players]] should perform a [[:Mechanic:Conflict:Morale]] [[:Mechanic:Roll:Test]], as [[:Mechanic:General:Appropriate]], to determine their level of [[:Mechanic:Conflict:Morale]]. They may also need to perform an [[:Mechanic:Conflict:Initiative]] [[:Mechanic:Roll:Test]] to determine the [[:Mechanic:Conflict:Initiative:Character Order]], as [[:Mechanic:General:Appropriate]]. This is also the time to resolve any triggered [[:Ability|Abilities]] or effects. At the end of an [[:Mechanic:General:Time:Encounter|Encounter]], several things occur. These are listed below: * Several effects, [[:Mechanic:Conflict:Condition|Conditions]] or [[:Ability|Abilities]] may end. * [[:Mechanic:Conflict:Morale]] is set to [[:Mechanic:Conflict:Morale#Neutral Morale|Neutral]] and unspent [[:Mechanic:Conflict:Morale#Priority]] is lost. * [[:Mechanic:Rating:Strain]] is restored to full. * The [[:Mechanic:General:Player:Game Master|GM]] gives the [[:Mechanic:General:Player:Cast Member|Cast]] an [[:Mechanic:General:Appropriate]] amount of [[:Character:General:Rank:Experience|Exp]]. * Certain [[:Ability|Abilities]] may trigger. Resolve them as [[:Mechanic:General:Appropriate]]. The [[:Mechanic:General:Player|Players]] can resolve these in any order that feels [[:Mechanic:General:Appropriate]] before moving onto the next [[:Mechanic:General:Time:Encounter|Encounter]] or ending the [[:Mechanic:General:Time:Scene]]. ==== Changelog ==== Version 0.5c - Oct 2026 * Page updated and moved.
