Physiology

Physiology is a mechanical term. It reflects the physical nature and essential requirements of an Entity. Whether they are made of bone, muscle and blood, with a need for food and sleep; a coalescence of magical forces sustained by sunlight, electricity or mystical energies; or a framework of circuitry, pistons and artificial systems requiring maintenance and fuel, an Entity's Physiology helps define how it interacts with forces and other entities of Meat Space.

A Physiology has no inherent effects or rules on its own, but instead determines how other rules and effects, such as those from Abilities or Items, may interact with an Entity based on their type of Physiology. An Entity can have multiple Physiologies, as Appropriate.

The following are the primary Physiologies found across Federation space.

Physiology Types

Organic Physiology

A type of Physiology.

An Entity with an Organic Physiology is primarily composed of living biological matter and generally follows the anatomical norms of their Race. Such organisms are sustained through biological processes and typically possess specialised organic structures responsible for movement, perception, circulation, respiration or other vital functions.

Astral Physiology

A type of Physiology.

An Entity with an Astral Physiology is primarily composed of magical or metaphysical energies rather than biological matter. Such entities generally follow the physical form and appearance of their Races, though their internal structure is often governed by mystical principles rather than biological processes. Astral beings are sustained by magical forces and may possess forms, functions and behaviours that are not bound by the natural laws of the Meat Space.

Technological Physiology

A type of Physiology.

An Entity with a Technological Physiology is primarily composed of manufactured materials and artificial systems rather than biological matter, such as machinery and Vehicles. Such entities are sustained through maintenance, repair and external sources of power, and generally function through mechanical, electronic or other technological processes. While naturally occurring Races with a purely Technological Physiology are rare, many beings possess a partially Technological Physiology through the integration of cybernetic augmentation, such as Cyberware.
