Character
In Meat Space a Character is your vessel for interacting with the world.
Character creation
Step One: Choose a Race & Stats
| Stat | Starter | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Brawn | 5 | 9 |
| Agility | 5 | 9 |
| Smarts | 5 | 9 |
| Wits | 5 | 9 |
| Panache | 5 | 9 |
| Intuition | 5 | 9 |
| Grit | 6 | 12 |
| Hokum | 5 | 9 |
| Wyrd | 6 | 12 |
Sub Step A
Generate your starting stats. This is done by copying the stat block table from your chosen Race.
The Table to the left is an example from the Human race.
Sub Step B
You may increase any of your Mundane Stats (Brawn, Agility, Smarts, Wits, Panache, and Intuition). Your first change is free, after that, however for each stat you increase, you must decrease another stat by an equal amount.
Example: If you wish to increase the human's Brawn to 6, then this would be free. However, if you wish to increase that Brawn even further, to 7, then you would need to reduce another stat by 1 to compensate, in this case, let's choose Agility.
No Stat can be more than two from its original starter score.
In addition, no Stat may exceed the Maximum or be reduced below 1. This can only be achieved through Cyberware, Bioware or Arcana.
Example: The human could not raise any of their Mundane Stats above 7 nor drop them to below 3, as that would put them more than 2 away from their original starting position of 5.
Sub Step C
Once you have finished adjusting your characters Stats from the default racial Stats, these become your new Starter Stats. Colour them in darker or note them seperately, as this is what your exp costs will be based on. Any changes to your Stats after this point will only effect your current stats but not your Starter Stats, so choose carefully.
Example: The Second chart is the same Human, with a adjustments made to their Brawn and Agility, to reflect that this particular human is quite tough and bulky but a little clumsy.
Sub Step D
Now that the Stats are finished, copy down your Racial Traits into the Appropriate section on your character sheet. These include Size, Perceptions and Unique Stuff.
Step 2: Choose a Job
Assign a Job and gain the Class Features detailed for level 1.
- Gain bonus Health
- Gain bonus Mana
- Gain bonus Strain
- Choose your Proficiencies
- Choose your Specialty Save
- Choose your starting Budget
Step 3: Derived Stat Shortcuts
Fill in your Derived Stats, such as Health and Actions points, with the combinations listed below.
For Example: Your Strain total is made by adding your current Panache and Starting Class Bonus
| Derived Stat | Stat 1 | Stat 2 | Stat 3 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Health | Brawn | Class Bonus | - |
| Mana | Hokum | Class Bonus | - |
| Strain | Panache | Class Bonus | - |

| Grit Points | Grit | - | - |
| Wyrd Points | Wyrd | - | - |
| Barrier | - | - | - |
| Armour | - | - | - |
Barrier and Armour is in the above for quick reference, but it is mostly determined by Equipment. Leave Space for them on your sheet and move on for now.
*Please be aware some shortcuts such as Action Points and Quick Action Points have more elaborate calculations than listed in the table, see their entry for their full calculation.
Step 4: Skills
Sub Step A
Skills are the default way of interacting with the universe and these 12 Skills should cover any and all situations that arise.
These are general skills and should be treated as such, for more specific interactions and abilties, read Masteries.
It may be easier to read both Step 4 & 5 at the same time before proceeding.
Assign 10 free ranks in any of the listed Skills.
Sub Step B
Make sure that before finishing Character Creation that your Character has no more than 3 Ranks in any one Skill, including bonus Ranks gained from Race, Job or any other sources.
Step 5: Masteries
See the Masteries in full : Here
Sub Step A
Assign the following Masteries:
1 Rank in a Mastery.
2 Ranks in a Mastery.
3 Ranks in a Mastery.
Sub Step B
For each rank in a Mastery, either from the above or from bonus Ranks gained from Race, Job or any other sources, choose 1 Action or Trait of a level equal to or lower than the level of the Mastery gained, from the corresponding lists.
This should mean that your character has at least six Actions and/or Traits total. Three level 1's, two level 2's, and one level 3, with possibly more if they received any bonus ranks.
Sub Step C
Make sure that before finishing Character Creation that your Character has no more than 3 Ranks in any one Mastery, including bonus Ranks gained from Race, Job or any other sources.
Step 6: Make a Vehicle
See: Vehicles
Step 7: It's a Giga-corp world and you're just shopping in it!
You gain Credits for Personal use from your Job's Starting Package to spend on Items.
If you have additional funds left over from your Vehicle allowance, these credits are lost.
Special note: You should buy your character a Belt as they are quite powerful for the cost.
Leveling Up
To progress your character in power, you must spend Experience Points, more commonly known as Exp. Exp is gained as you play Meat Space in various ways.
You may Spend any Exp you have during the end of any Scene, although each player has a responsibility to keep it diegetic.
To know how much certain things cost to level up, consult This Table.
