Mods

Mods are beneficial alterations that can be applied to your Items via Modding to gain various effects and benefits.

Mods add their effects to the Item they are installed in as Appropriate.

Restrictions

All Mods have restrictions on what types of Item they may be installed on, this is indicated by the Mod's [Archetype] and [Subtype]. Should a Mod share an [Archetype] and [Subtype] with the Item you wish to install it on, you may do so. If it does not share an [Archetype] and [Subtype] then you may not.

Requirements

Both Mods and Items have Brawn Requirements. when adding a Mod to an Item, the greater of the two Brawn Requirements is the Item's new Brawn Requirement

Example: An Underslung 'Nade Launcher has a Brawn Requirement of 6 and if installed in a Light Rifle, Which has a Brawn Requirement of 4, would increase the Requirement to 6.

Modding

Modding is the act of installing a [Mod] on an Item.

To install a [Mod] on an Item you must obtain or have in your possession both an Item and the [Mod] you wish to install on it. The Item must also have Hardpoints available equal to or greater than the Hardpoint Tax of the [Mod] you wish to install.

Once you have both the Item and the [Mod] you may begin Modding. Installing a [Mod] takes time based on the skill of the Character performing the installation, the nature of the Item being Modded and the situation it is being Modded in. Refer to the table below for examples.

Most Characters prefer to have a their Items professionally Modded to avoid damaging them. Should a Character choose to have a professional apply these [Mods], they will typically charge an additional amount, between 5 to 20% of the Value of the [Mod], with the [Mod] being applied safely after an Appropriate amount of time, see the table below for suggested times.

A Character may choose instead to [Mod] the Item themselves, when they do so it is always done under the effects of the Dangerous Property. This Dangerous Property has an [Effect] the [Players] deem Appropriate commonly a temporary Condition that lasts until repaired or in more extreme cases a long term Condition or even destruction of the Item or [Mod]. Additional negative Properties will apply based on how the installation is performed as Appropriate. See below for example Properties and why they may apply.

Timeline Examples

Pro Timeline Severity Interval Type of Augment
1 - 3+ [Hours] 50 - 80+ [Hourly] Modding most Items.
4 - 8+ [Hours] 100 - 140+ [Hourly] Modding higher [Class] Items.

Example: Earl the Earnest has a Pistol with 3 Hardpoints available and wants to Modify it with an Ammo Drum. Earl goes to a vendor, buying the Ammo Drum for its listed Value of 5,000c. Earl requests the vendor perform the [Mod] Installation and is charged 5% of the 5,000c, an additional 250c. Earl leaves their Pistol and Ammo Drum with the vendor, returning 2 [Hours] later to pickup their Modded Pistol.

Example 2: Earl buys the Ammo Drum and performs the Modification on their Pistol by themself instead. To do so they begin a Tech [Ritual] of [Severity] 55 with an [Hourly] [Interval] under the effects of the Dangerous Property. The conditions in which Earl is performing the Modification are not great as they are missing the correct tools and don't have a workshop to perform the Modification in. This means their [Ritual] will additionally be performed under the Disadvantage, Fickle and Unreliable Properties. The [Players] agree that performing the Modification in these conditions is somewhat dangerous and thus, the Pistol will gain an [Appropriate] repairable Condition if the Dangerous Property is triggered.
