Line of Effect and Line of Sight

Line of Effect is a term that describes if you can effectively interact with a target or not. Knowing where a target is doesn’t necessarily mean that you are able to affect them.

Line of Effect, and what it means, can change from situation to situation. Mostly it means that there is a clear path from you to the target.

Line of Sight is a term that describes if you can effectively perceive a target or not. Knowing a target exists or is nearby is not the same as knowing, exactly, where they are.

If you can perceive a target, on one of your perceptions, then you have Line of Sight to the target.
