Property

Properties are modifiers that specifically impact Dice Pools. This adds additional effects, both positive and negative, based on the Results generated and if they meet the specific requirements of the Property in question. This can cause effects such as Rerolling Die, adding and subtracting Die from the Dice Pool and causing Critical Success or Critical Failure.

Properties can be Upgraded and Downgraded. See the section Below.

A Dice Pool can have multiple Properties. Should a Dice Pool be effected by opposing Properties, as detailed below, the effects of those Properties cancel each other out and the roll is performed without either effect. The Dice Pool still has those Properties, it just doesn't gain the effects.

Example: A Check performed under the effects of both of the Advantage and Disadvantage Properties would cancel each other out, causing you to only roll a single D20 instead of two. However, the Dice Pool would still be under the effects of both the Advantage and Disadvantage Properties.

The Properties and their opposites

Fortuitous

Trait - Property

Should you achieve Critical Success, you benefit from additional effects beyond those normally applied by a Critical Success.

These benefits will be defined by the Item, Ability, etc conferring this Property.

Example: When rolling an Attack with say a Reaper and you were to roll a Critical Success it would cause the Target to immediately receive an Injury instead of taking the normal Damage.

Each Property in this table counters the one horizontally opposite to itself.

Dangerous

Trait - Property

Should you achieve Critical Failure, you suffer additional consequences beyond those normally applied by a Critical Failure.

These consequences will be defined by the Item, Ability, etc conferring this Property.

Example: When rolling an Attack with a Pistol, should you achieve a Critical Failure, it would cause a Weapon Jam meaning the pistol would immediately lose all of its Ammo. This is in addition to Failing the Attack against the original Target as normal for a Critical Failure.

Disadvantage

Trait - Property

When rolling a D20, you roll 2 D20 instead of 1 and must take the lower Result of the two.

Fickle

Trait - Property

While under the effects of this Property when rolling a D20, you must Reroll any Result of 20.

Please note: When rolling under the effects of the Advantage or Disadvantage Properties, you Reroll any singular D20 with the Result of 20, not both Die.

Unreliable

Trait - Property

While under the effects of this Property, when rolling a D4, D6, D8, D10 or D12, you must Reroll Results of:

  • 4 on D4's
  • 6 on D6's
  • 7 & 8 on D8's
  • 9 & 10 on D10's
  • 10,11 & 12 on D12's.

Please Note: As a helpful reminder, Unreliable only applies to the highest 25% of possible Results on a Die.

If a Dice Pool is under the effects of both the Imploding and Unreliable Property, Imploding is resolved first, before Rerolling any Die due to the Unreliable Property.

Poor

Trait - Property

While under the effects of this Property, when rolling a D20 you achieve Critical Failure on Results of 1 and 2, instead of 1.

Imploding

Trait - Property

While under the effects of this Property, whenever you would achieve a Result on a Die equal to the maximum that die can roll, such as an 8 on a D8 or 4 on a D4, that Die is removed from your Dice Pool.

If a Dice Pool is under the effects of both the Imploding and Unreliable Property, Imploding is resolved first, before Rerolling any Die due to the Unreliable Property.

Example: Rolling a 12 on a D12 under the effects of Imploding would cause the D12 to be removed from the Dice Pool, thus adding nothing to the Total.

Troubles

Trait - Property

While under the effects of this Property, any time two or more Die in your Dice Pool have the same Result, both Die replace their Results with the minimum that Die can roll.

Example: Getting a Result of 6 on both a D20 and D12 in your Dice Pool would cause the D20's Result to become 1 and the D12's Result to also become 1. Furthermore due to the Result of the D20 becoming 1 it also Critically Fails.

Please Note: Troubles applies to all Die in a Dice Pool, not just a single pair. If you had 20 Die with the same Result, all of them would suffer from Troubles.

Perfection

Trait - Property

When rolling a D20, a Result of 20 is replaced with a Result of 1.

Due to the Result of 20 being replaced with 1, you never achieve Critical Success, achieving Critical Failure instead.

Wuntch's Whatever
Imperfection is a VERY potent negative Property and is very rarely found natively on Items and Abilities for just this reason. If you are considering applying Imperfection to a Dice Pool as a result of roleplay or a consequence of some kind, we recommend putting strong consideration into this choice. A roll with Imperfection can never crit, functionally making that roll almost or completely impossible for Characters that aren't specialised in it, and even those who are, now critically fail on a 20. seems pretty sucky from the players point of view. All that to say, Imperfection is a great tool to apply if a roll SHOULD be desperate and near impossible, but if not, there are plenty of other Properties to spice up your rolls.

Advantage

Trait - Property

When rolling a D20, you roll 2 D20 instead of 1 and must take the higher Result of the two.

Trusty

Trait - Property

When rolling a D20 you may Reroll any Result of 1.

Please note: When rolling under the effects of the Advantage or Disadvantage Properties, you Reroll any singular D20 with the Result of 1, not both Die.

Reliable

Trait - Property

While under the effects of this Property, when rolling a D4, D6, D8, D10 or D12, you may Reroll Results of:

  • 1 on D4's & D6's
  • 1 & 2 on D8's & D10's
  • 1, 2 & 3 on D12's.

Please Note: As a helpful reminder, Reliable only applies to the lowest 25% of possible Results on a Die.

Fine

Trait - Property

While under the effects of this Property, when rolling a D20 you achieve Critical Success on Results of 19 and 20, instead of 20.

Exploding

Trait - Property

While under the effects of this Property, whenever you would achieve a Result on a Die equal to the maximum that die can roll, such as an 8 on a D8 or 4 on a D4, you may add that Result to your Total twice.

Example: Rolling an 6 on a D6 under the effects of Exploding would cause you to add 12 to your Total.

Doubles

Trait - Property

While under the effects of this Property, any time two or more Die in your Dice Pool have the same Result, both Die replace their Results with the maximum that Die can roll.

Example: Getting a Result of 6 on both a D20 and D12 in your Dice Pool would cause the D20's Result to become 20 and the D12's Result to become 12. Furthermore due to the Result of the D20 becoming 20 it also Critically Succeeds.

Please Note: Doubles applies to all Die in a Dice Pool, not just a single pair. If you had 20 Die with the same Result, all of them would benefit from Doubles.

Perfection

Trait - Property

While under the effects of this Property, when rolling a D20, a Result of 1 is replaced with a Result of 20.

Due to the Result of 1 being replaced with 20, you never achieve Critical Failure, achieving Critical Success instead.

Upgrading Properties

When Upgrading a Property, advance along the appropiate progression list from your starting Property. Moving once per Upgrade.

Example: Olivine the Oricalcai is performing a Study Check under the effects of the Advantage Property due to his Mastery of Thought Ability. His ally Ted performs the Help Action to give Olivine another instance of Advantage. Due to Mastery of Thought Olivine's Advantage is Upgraded to Reliable. This means Olivine's Study Check is now under the effects of both the Reliable and Advantage Properties.

The same would be true in the case of Disadvantage being Upgraded to Unreliable.
