Flip a Coin

Flipping a Coin is a mechanical and diagetic term. It is the act of randomly generating a Result with only two outcomes.

To Flip a Coin you can use what is referred to as a D2. While not a real physical Die, a D2 can be represented by a 2 sided coin or using a larger Die such as a D6 or D12 and declaring which Results are Heads, and which are Tails.

Once you've determined which method you wish to use, flip the coin or roll the Die, whichever side remains face up is your Result.

A D2 or coin can be affected by Traits and Properties where Appropriate. In most cases Properties will name specific Die or sets of Dice they affect, these specifically cannot apply to a D2, whereas Properties such as Fortuitous can. If you feel a particular Trait or Property should apply to a Coin Flip don't be afraid to have a conversation with the other Players to determine what would be the most Appropriate for that Coin Flip.

Example: Gamblin' Greg is a Gambler, this gives him the Double Down Ability. This Ability lets him Flip a Coin to alter the outcome of a pending Check, Attack or Save, with a Result of Heads becoming a Success and a Result of Tails becoming a spectacular Critical Failure. Gregs Player takes an Australian 20 cent coin, which has a profile of a british monarchs head for the Heads side and an image of a platypus for the Tails side. The Players agree that these are the Heads and Tails Results so Greg's Player then flips the coin through the air so it rotates end over end, catching or letting the coin land on the table. The coin lands with the monarch's head facing up so the Result is Heads and therefore a Success!

Example 2: The same Gamblin' Greg's Player as before decides they're not too great at flipping physical coins, so opts to use a D6 to Flip a Coin instead. Gamblin' Greg's Player declares to the others that the even Results, 2, 4 and 6, are Heads and the odd Results, 1, 3 and 5, are Tails. The Players agree that these are the Heads and Tails Results so Greg's Player then rolls the D6. The Result on the Die is 3, Tails and therefore a spectacular Critical Failure!

Heads

Heads is a term used when Flipping a Coin. Heads is one of two Results that can be generated on a D2 when Flipping a Coin.

When Flipping a Coin the Results of that coin or Die must be declared if they are Heads or Tails. In the case of a coin, both sides should be distinct from each other allowing one side to clearly be declared Heads. In the case of using a Die, methods such as declaring all odd or even Results as Heads or declaring the lowest or highest half such as, 1-3 and 4-6 on a D6, Heads are both valid. So long as all Players clearly understand which Results are Heads and which are Tails and the Result is random, any method you choose will be Appropriate.

Tails

Tails is a term used when Flipping a Coin. Tails is one of two Results that can be generated on a D2 when Flipping a Coin.

When Flipping a Coin the results of that coin or Die must be declared if they are Heads or Tails. In the case of a coin, both sides should be distinct from each other allowing one side to clearly be declared Tails. In the case of using a Die, methods such as declaring all odd or even Results as Tails or declaring the lowest or highest half such as, 1-3 and 4-6 on a D6, Tails are both valid. So long as all Players clearly understand which Results are Heads and which are Tails and the Result is random, any method you choose will be Appropriate.

Reflip

Reflipping is a term specific to Flipping a Coin. It is the act of taking an already Flipped Coin and flipping it again for a different Result.

A coin may be Reflipped through the use of the Lucky Break Action even though it is not a Die, in this case it becomes a Reflip and not a Do-Over.

once Reflipped a coin cannot be Reflipped again.
